Basic, general dog grooming is essential.

Grooming is a big part of a dog's health. These are some simple things you can do. Getting him used to being handled while he is young is important. If not grooming or vet visits will be impossible to do when they get to be adults. You will not want to wrestle him down and no groomer will want to groom him.

Brush them, so they don't get matted they can cause sores. Make it a nice thing to do daily.

Pluck the hair in the ear canal. Keep then very clean. Cover your finger with a warm damp towel and clean it out. Get some "ear wash" for dogs. If it has odor you might already have an infection. Call the vet we try to keep away from vet clinics where each time you are seen by a different vet. They never get to know you or your pet. FOR Cropped Ears- Clean ear as described above whenever you replace the ear forms. We use the "No Tape" method but we have modified it using some tape at the base and tips. This method uses mole foam by Dr Scholl's and skin bond medical glue. Using this method we have never had an ear infection.

You can take gauze with a bit of baking soda and rub the teeth from time to time. There are special toothbrushes for dogs you can try that. "Dentabones" will work. Start this when they are young.

Don't bath them often it is bad for the coat it dries them out. Sometimes the coat picks up some smell you can use baking powder and blow it out If you have a blower. Blowers are great for getting rid of loose dirt and dust. Giants like a few other breeds don't shed like most dogs. Raking them is part of basic grooming your breeder should help you learn a bit about that. Shaving a pet is done often but Show dogs should not be shaved they have to be raked and stripped. The blower is great for blowing out the coat of these types of dogs.

Clean the eyes, (prevents tear ducts from being obstructed) you can use a damp wash towel if you like.

Trim the nails. Long nails are not just damaging to your floors but also to the dog.

Long Nails can cause injuries!

To the growing foot bones and structure if not kept short.

To the nail because it can crack and get infected.

To the dog because the as nail curves and dog will not have stability and balance. He will slip and slid putting undue pressure on joints.

To the pet owners because the nails can hurt if they step on your foot and you are barefoot or mess up your clothes.

You can do it yourself.

How to do Clip the nail?

Just clip them little by little just small chips off the tips until you are more comfortable with dog nail clipper and keep quick stop handy just in case. You can get quick stop at a pet shop it one small container will last a very long time. It really does not hurt. If you cut too deep and you draw some blood just pack a bit of quick stop onto the nail tip and it will stop it quick. You get better at it and the dog will get used to it. It just scares them a bit.
